Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim’s mind. Typically, gaslighters are seeking to gain power and control over the other person, by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition.

The term “gaslighting” comes from the 1938 play Angel Street, which Alfred Hitchock later adapted into the film Gaslight, in which a man tries to convince his wife that she is going insane so he can steal from her. When he turns on the lights in the attic to search for her jewelry collection, and the gas lights dim downstairs, he tells her it’s all in her imagination. Gradually she begins to question her own memories and perceptions.

Note from the Blogger:

Although I knew what I was experiencing felt wrong.  I was not aware of the different types of tactics used by abusers.

I firmly believe Awareness is the first step to overcome abuse. Once you identify someone is using gaslighting to manipulate the situation it’s easier to gaslight them right back. Ha. ❤️ Candice Fernandez Silva

I’m closing this chapter

Let the words run off the page

So much pain

A lot of anger

Fast pitch ready, let’s do this thing

Regrets, many

Changes, certainly

I saw the darkness

Watched all it claimed

What looked like a gift

And smelled like a promise

Only evil, within each day

There was smoke

It was fire

Deceitful darkness, from another plane

Left us wounded

Almost stranded

Forever chronically with sane

If God has something for you

He does not place it behind harms way

If God has a lesson to share

It’s not delivered in uncertain shame

Now I see through devils darkness

Brilliant light has blessed my pain

Running away with what harm left me

Shielding sol from my mistakes

Like I’ve done so many times

Throwing out all the wrong game plays

Time has come to close this chapter

Time is here, to change my stay

I’ll wash myself in scripture

He’ll fill me up through praise

Epilogue you’ve run too long here

Today I say let’s end this game

This trip was on my mental dream board for 2yrs. My 5yr old daughter and I attended the first Munoz/Fernandez Family Reunion in Carlsbad, NM.

My family made many trips to Carlsbad during my youth and we are blessed to have attended!!

We finished our vacation up in Sedona, AZ where we made new friends for life and relaxed against a beautiful backdrop of Canyons.

10 days, 4,000 miles, 5 flights, 2 road trips & 2 “lost” 50lb suitcases later, I’m back to share with you the highlights of our trip! ❤️

What Does Indigenous Americas Mexico Mean?

Indigenous Mexican Americans or Mexican American Indians are American citizens who are descended from the Indigenous peoples of Mexico.

For more than 200 years, New Mexico existed as part of colonial Mexico, then for 25 years as a territory of Mexico. Those historical events shaped New Mexico and led to a war with the United States in 1846 that would change the state forever.

Native American groups have inhabited the region of New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and Utah for thousands of years — many centuries before Europeans reached the Americas.

What does Indigenous Americas Mexico mean ancestry?

All the people with DNA from any of the regions above have ancestors who were the original inhabitants of North and South America. These people are often referred to (in English) as Native American, First Nations, American Indian, Amerindian, Aboriginal, or Indigenous People of the Americas.

What does this mean to me?

My birth certificate issued in 1980 shows my “race” as Mexican. Based on my family’s heritage and culture I have always identified as a “Mexican” and not “Mexican American”, allow me to explain.

When speaking Spanish, I am often asked about my ethnicity. When I state I am “Mexican”, the next question is always “what part of Mexico are you from”?

My response…. Texas.

This is where race, heritage and ethnicity can get confusing for anyone not indigenous to that territory or a self-proclaimed YouTube scholar like myself.

I am of mixed race. My father considered “Mexican” and my mother “Caucasian”. I have chosen the identity of Mexican not only because a birth record had chosen for me, but also our family’s culture.

In the early 80’s there was still a stigmatism placed on a Caucasian woman who reproduced or married a “minority”. Although my mother’s family accepted me, I have never felt “white”. My parents did not stay married, and I was adopted and raised by my fraternal grandparents.

My household language was Spanish, I speak Spanish fluently, I attended a Spanish speaking church and congregated most often with the Hispanic side of my family.

Although I call myself Mexican, that reference is still not completely accurate. My heart lies with Indigenous Mexican Americans or Mexican American Indians.

That is what we are, Indigenous to the Americas.
